Corey Hawk

Corey Hawk is a Partner at Accipital, primarily managing investment related activities.

At Accipital, Corey has overseen the deployment of $225 million of investor capital across a variety of asset classes and geographies. Corey is responsible for the day-to-day fund management as well as overseeing all portfolio operations.

Prior to Accipital, Corey was a Managing Director at Corstone and a Principal Advisor at Blue Marlin Partners.

At Corstone, Corey managed a $550 million portfolio of South Korean private equity assets, as part of the Corstone Asia team, and oversaw the development of Corstone Ventures, a Puerto Rico based early-stage investment fund. In his time at Corstone, he completed a variety of investment transactions in East Asia, Europe, North America, and the Middle East. These investments have included a variety of asset stages including venture capital, growth equity, buyout, and credit opportunities.

At Blue Marlin, Corey completed two private equity transactions totaling over $90 million in invested capital.

Prior to his private equity career, Corey worked as an M&A Consultant within the Strategy & Operations practice at Deloitte Consulting, primarily covering the financial services and telecommunications industries.

Corey also founded and exited Top Line Flow, a sales acceleration startup which generated qualified sales opportunities for B2B companies. Previously he led the manufacturing outsourcing efforts in China for Qore One, a composites manufacturer headquartered in the US.

Corey holds an MBA from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business and a bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, and psychology from Washington University in St. Louis.

Eisha Mercader Perez

Regional Director, LATIN AMERICA

Eisha Mercader is a Partner at Accipital, overseeing business development of the Puerto Rico Founder’s Fund.

Prior to joining Accipital, Eisha founded El Ropero, an e-commerce retailer selling into the $70 billion global market of secondary clothing.

Previously, Eisha served as the Human Resources Director of the Public Building Authority of Puerto Rico (PBA) – public corporation responsible for the administration and maintenance of office buildings, courts, schools, and health care facilities leased to the Commonwealth and its departments, agencies and municipalities. At PBA, Eisha led the implementation of an integrated and automated time and attendance (T&A) system seeking to prevent incorrect payroll payments being disbursed to inactive employees and ensuring proper payroll controls.

Additionally, Eisha served as a project manager in the Central Office for Recovery, Reconstruction and Resiliency of Puerto Rico (COR3). As part of her role in COR3, Eisha worked together with the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) program which provided to Puerto Rico after the passing of Hurricane Maria an approximate of $3 billion in funding for eligible mitigation planning and projects that sought to reduce the risk of loss of life and property from future natural disasters.

Eisha holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing and human resources from the University of Puerto Rico – Mayaguez Campus.

Francisco Díaz Massó

Fund Advisor – Construction, LATIN AMERICA

Francisco Díaz Massó is a Fund Advisor to Accipital.

Francisco is a President & CEO of Bermudez, Longo, Díaz-Massó, LLC (BLDM, LLC), one of the largest and most highly regarded construction specialty contractors in Puerto Rico and the United States. He has over 28 years of experience in all facets of the construction industry.

Francisco began working at Bermudez & Longo, S.E, as an intern in the late 80’s, eventually creating his own company, Díaz-Massó, Inc. in 1994. In 2006, Francisco led the merger between the two firms, creating BLDM – a company that services the construction industry in residential, commercial, institutional, industrial, and infrastructure projects.

Outside his role as the president and CEO of BLDM, LLC, in 2011, he was president of the Board of the Puerto Rico Construction Cluster, Puerto Rico Manufacturers Association. He is also a member and past president (2017) of the Board of Directors of the Association of General Contractors of America (Chapter of Puerto Rico). In addition, he is a member of the Puerto Rico College and Engineers and Surveyors, a member of the YPO Puerto Rico Chapter, and a trustee member of Colegio San Jose at Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, and the University of Sagrado Corazón, San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Thanks to his excellence and outstanding dedication, in 2009, Eng. Díaz Massó was selected as the recipient of the Distinguished Mechanical Engineer Award by the Mechanical Engineer Institute of Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico College of Engineering.

Francisco holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Rutgers University.

José A. Arroyo

José Arroyo is a Fund Advisor to Accipital.

José is a Co-Founder and Managing Director of Sinfonica Strategies, a Puerto Rico strategy consulting firm. He has over 20 years of successful experience, in consulting, finance and leadership roles, working with both the private and public sector.

Prior to founding Sinfonica, José worked at Evertec (EVTC) for over six years, taking on various roles, the latest being Head of Business Development for Puerto Rico in charge of private and government accounts.

Prior to EVTC, José was a Senior Engagement Manager for V2A, a boutique consulting firm with offices in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and Miami.

Early in his professional years, José worked for Popular Inc., McKinsey & Co. and ventured in the restaurant industry as an entrepreneur.

José has a bachelor’s degree in finance from Boston College and an MBA from NYU’s Stern School of Business.

He enjoys writing, basketball, and long deep conversations.

Juan Casillas

Juan Casillas is a Fund Advisor to Accipital, focusing primarily on Media and AdTech/MarTech industries.

Juan is the CEO & Founder, bMedia Group, the largest outdoor digital marketing company in Puerto Rico.

Juan has over 25 years of experience in media. He began his career at Procter & Gamble in brand management followed by several years at Molson Coors Brewing Company where he held positions in marketing and ultimately became the Commercial Director for Puerto Rico, LATAM and the Caribbean markets in 2006.

In 2009, Juan founded bMedia Group to focus on the emerging tech-enabled marketing/advertising industry in Puerto Rico, LATAM, and the Caribbean. He grew the company into one of the leading media companies in Puerto Rico and the leader outdoor and out-of-home advertising in the industry.

He spearheaded an important evolution in the out-of-home industry to elevate its standards using technology, accountability and service excellence to foster growth and innovation. With his vision and team, Juan transformed the out-of-home industry by implementing unique strategies to develop the market and connect with consumers at key locations. Today bMedia has more than 300 digital billboards throughout Puerto Rico, always innovating, building brands and servicing clients.

Juan has a bachelor’s degree in finance and accounting from Boston College, is a YPO member, and participates in many charitable causes and initiatives to foster economic growth in Puerto Rico.

Paul Schwinn

Fund Advisor – Legal, NORTH AMERICA

Paul Schwinn is a Principal Advisor to Accipital.

Paul is a Partner at Shulman Rogers, specializing in: Business and Financial Services; Finance/Capital Markets; Mergers and Acquisitions; Securities and Public Companies; Technology Transactions; Investment Funds; and NEXT: For Startups and Emerging Growth Companies.

Paul’s involvement with NEXT, an internal startup accelerator, led to a Board member position at a mid-Atlantic Angel Fund and several outsourced CFO roles at early-stage startups.

He continues to act as primary legal counsel for Accipital’s early-stage transactions, most recently advising on investments in SalesIntel and No House Advantage.

In the community, Paul volunteers his time as a mentor for entrepreneurs of both emerging growth and non-profit entities. He regularly serves as a speaker on business considerations, including the issues and process of organizing/incorporating an entity. Paul has advised and coached dozens of entrepreneurs through area organizations, including the DC Chapter of the Founder Institute and the Nonprofit Village.

Paul holds an MBA, JD, and Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Missouri.

Carlos Mercader Perez

Carlos Mercader is a Principal Advisor to Accipital.

Carlos is the founder of Cypher Gates, a Puerto Rico based consultancy. He is also a regular contributor to Pelota Dura, a Puerto Rican television and radio political commentary show.

He served as the Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration in Washington, D.C.

Before joining PRFAA, Carlos worked at the United States Attorney’s Office in Washington, D.C., in the litigation of employment related matters involving the federal government. He served as an Associate Counsel at International Human Rights Group as well as the Executive Director of the Latino Partnership for Conservative Principles.

He then worked at the Disability Rights Section of the Civil Rights Division of the United States Department of Justice, focusing on the investigation and litigation of Americans with Disabilities Act discrimination cases and assisted in Housing and State Police discrimination claims.

He holds a BA in Marketing from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus and a JD from the Catholic University of Puerto Rico Law School in Puerto Rico.

Max, is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry within the Department of Psychiatry at Washington University School of Medicine.
